Choosing Our Future is a venue or space that gathers for @ risk kids’ age 15 - 26 living around the area of Sapi. These young boys have their own stories in their life’s, stories that made the community and their own parents don’t believe in them anymore. The community is looking at these kids in a different angle of life as “trouble kids “or “useless kids”. The young people themselves have lost their value and dignity in their own home and even their community.
Most of these young people come from broken homes and to an extend that both parents have gone their ways leaving the kids with far extended families. Others involved in activities such as substance abuse (tobacco, marijuana, kava, alcohol), stealing, fighting, excessive noise every weekends, using abusive language at an early age. Furthermore few of them had their first ever police arrest on 5 or 6 grade  and now living with very far extended families.
Therefore, this venue or space serves as the first point of contact in gaining access to information and resources. This will help them in order to develop positive options, by assisting them in developing individual goals and plans to integrat youth to the community, gain self-respect and dignity and have control over their lives. The programs and service will help encourage young people to move through a series of constructive steps of their life. The Space will also organise program such as visiting the needy and etc.
The question we ask ourselves is “throughout our entire life in this community have we seen and heard anything from the community that they organise to help us or assist in finding an avenue to solve our issues?”….we believe that change is a process that can happen only with right tools and using it in a right way and it’s an awarding experience.
The Duke of Edinburgh, Futsal and the psychosocial program is a second chance or an avenue to re-emphasis the teachings (parenting) and somehow mould our children in a positive way. This young people see this program as a tool for change in their own life’s.
The approach to this young people is sensitive in a way that only some people can get thru. We move in a indirect ways, approach one to one and discussing with them their plans in life and also mention to them that “successful people have discipline in life it’s not all about money.
